The Equality Act 2010: Are you ready for one of the most far reaching pieces of legislation to come into force?

Webster Dixon LLP will be hosting a seminar in conjunction with HR Specialists Kerry McGowan of “Birchanger HR Solutions” and Laura Hopson of “The People Business”. The seminar will discuss the Employment law and practical HR implications of the Equality Act 2010 and how it will apply to employers as it is phased in from 1 October 2010.

The seminar will provide you with a combination of Employment Law and pragmatic HR advice, tips and recommendations from experts in the field.

The Equality Act 2010 replaces numerous discrimination related statutes and regulations extending beyond the employment relationship.
The seminar will provide you with an overview of some of the main employment–related provisions in the Act including:
• The 9 protected characteristics of discrimination
• Extension of positive action
• The tribunal’s power to make wider recommendations in discrimination cases
• A new definition of direct discrimination to cover both 'associative' and 'perceived' discrimination
• Extension of  employers' liability for third party harassment
• The harmonisation of the definition of harassment
• The widening of the test for establishing whether a person has a disability.
• Dual discrimination claims based on two different types of discrimination
• Prohibition of  pre-employment questionnaires
• Indirect Discrimination
